We figured we’d pass this along to those who are looking for creative ways to add to their tool arsenal to accomplish a restoration or a project. We can’t take credit for this and honestly can’t remember where we first saw this but it was something we knew would work. It’s likely we saw it in a video of someone building models. And in the past we’ve done similar things on projects with foam using the nail to make impressions in the styrofoam or using a wire to cut shapes out of styrofoam.
Either way, this is a good way to melt plastic pieces together. You can see in the video below how we did it. We just cut a large nail in half, removed the soldering iron tip and put the end of the nail into the soldering iron. Once it got up to temperature, we applied pressure and melted the plastic.
