Recently a conversation came up about the picture of the engine bay of this Bleakley Ford car. It had red spark plug wires in the old picture taken many years ago. Something I had overlooked.

One of the items in the Bleakley Impressor Stage II package is the Champion wires which were red. But, I still had to investigate to be sure that’s what was on the car.
I reached out to my friend Bill Butler who is a Ford Motorsport parts guru from the 80’s and 90’s. He confirmed that in 1989 and 1990 the Ford Motorsport catalog only had blue wires in it. It wasn’t until the mid to late 90’s that they offered other colors.
So that led me to the Saleen wires that were red. I did some research there and that points to those particular wire sets made by Taylor not being available until 1993-94.
So that affirms that the wires on the 1990 Impressor in our shop as being a Champion wire set. That’s great news. The bad news is that they are extremely difficult to find. Champion hasn’t made wires in years like this and to beat all the Impressor package also has Champion spark plugs in it.

Above is a set we scored thanks to our buddy Rick. He posted up a couple of sets for sale in one of the groups we participate in. We struck a deal and he even threw in those spark plugs for us. That’s an amazing find!! What’s even more amazing is that Rick had not one, not two, but THREE sets available. And as of this writing they have all found new homes.

Speaking of rare hens teeth. We were able to get the Saleen shift knob installed in the car. Looks near factory perfect. We’re pleased with the results. Thanks again to Morgans Auto Trim. Matt made this thing shine and put in a little work in getting the shift knob recovered.
